Sir Paul McCartney

The Beatles Years

McCartney, born 1942, is surely the most successfull artist who contributed a title track to a 007 movie what was in 1973. But first back to the sixties. As (almost) everybody knows McCartney was a member of the the Fab Four - The Beatles. He and John Lennon formed the most successfull songwriter duo ever bringing songs like "Yellow Submarine", "When I'm 64", "Yesterday", "Hey Jude", "Let It Be", ... ... ... and even more... ... over the world. This successfull story lastet from 1960 to 1969 when the Beatles split up and McCartney, Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Star went their own ways each of them beeing more or less successfull solo artists.

McCartney & Wings

In the seventies McCartney founded the Wings, in which also his wife Linda was a member. The Wings had several hits including the mega seller "Mull of Kintyre" (1977). In 1973 "Band On The Run" - highly acclaimed by the crititcs - marked one of the Wings milestones. The same year the Wings did "Live and Let Die", the title track for the Bond film of the same name. At first McCartney was only supposed to compose the track, which should have been performed by a female singer, Paul managed to do the song with his own band.

The 80ies

After the Wings' split McCartney continued his career on his own, always together with his wife Linda. His most popular songs in the 80ies included "Say Say Say" (together with Michael Jackson), "Once Upon A Long Ago" and "Ebony And Ivory" (duet with Stevie Wonder). After a little bit more silence about McCartney in the mid eighties in 1989 Paul came back to the international charts with his album "Flowers In The Dirt". He also did a big successfull world tour in 1989/90 (accoustically conserved in "Tripping The Live Fantastic") which featured mainly songs from Beatles era and from the "Flowers In The Dirt" album.

The 90ies

His next "official" studio album was "Off The Ground" in 1993 including the hit "Hope Of Deliverance". This album was accompanied by "The New World Tour" - another firework of Beatles/McCartey hits in concert. This tour marked the last one up to now. In 1997 he released the "Flaming Pie" album. The same year Linda McCartney died and Paul reduced his public presence. At the end of the last millennium, in 1999, Paul went back to his roots with "Run Devil Run" an album consisting of old rock n'roll standards and some new McCartney compositions in the old rock n'roll style. These songs have been also presented live in the Cavern Club - one of the locations where the Beatles startet their way over the world. Only several hundred people had the chance to see the show in the club. Many more watched the event on a big video screen in Liverpool and over a live internet broadcast. It was also in the 90ies when McCartney was honored by Queen Elisabeth, from then own beeing Sir Paul McCartney.

New fields of music

Starting in the 90ies PaulMcCartney also made some journeys to other fields of music with some special projects. One of these projects have been the releases of albums under the name The Fireman. These albums (e.g. 1998 "Rushes") mainly included trance/dance tracks made out of material from the "Off The Ground" album. Other projects of McCartney lead him to the classical music with "The Liverpool Oratorio" (1991) being his first classical work.  "Standing Stone" (1997) and "Working Classical" (1999) marked other classical compositions by McCartney. While the Fireman albums haven't been too successfull at least "The Liverpool Oratorio" got very much attention in the press and was a respectable success on the classical market.
